Breaking in a new recorder

Banner Slide 1Guidelines for breaking in a New Recorder

To ensure your new wooden recorder maintains its quality it is important to break it in properly from the beginning. It is very easy to ruin a new instrument by over playing. The wood needs to adjust to the humidity of your breath gradually. We recommend the following guidelines:

  • in the beginning play your instrument every day, but for no more than 15 minutes per day;
  • keep mainly to the middle register and avoid playing many long high notes;
  • be sure to blow out the windway and wipe the instrument dry after each session.;
  • after 2 weeks gradually increase your daily playing time by 5 minutes from week to week for the next 4 weeks.

Following this schedule will ensure your recorder continues to sound its best and give you many years of enjoyment.
